Compared with a B1-size press, the RMGT 970 uses lower-cost plates and less power, helping reduce operating expenses. Its compact footprint also creates a more comfortable pressroom and makes better use of available floor space.

Straight from the paper house to the presses
The 8-UP+ RMGT 970XL will now produce jobs like 9” X 12” booklets and a wide range of other applications using the same sheet format commonly run on a 40-inch press.
ASAP Automation
Automated Smart Assist Printing increases press operating rates for continuous printing of short-run work

One Touch. One Streamlined Makeready Process.
With one touch, ASAP manages the entire makeready sequence—from ink and paper presetting, cleaning, and plate changes to test-print verification, register and ink-density adjustment, and full-sheet inspection. The system completes each step autonomously, without requiring the pressman to pull a sheet.

Real-Time Visibility. Simplified Press Control.
Network cameras and touchscreen monitors give the pressman a clear view of sheet transport, job progress, density results, and safety status. Feeder and delivery settings, adjustments, diagnostics, and daily operations are managed directly from the touchscreens, while Press Information Edge can connect production data with the printer’s ERP system.*
*Optional equipment and configurations.

Faster, More Consistent Color Control
SpectroDrive and SpectroJet measure printed color bars, compare solid and halftone densities with target values, and calculate the necessary ink corrections. The system then adjusts the ink fountain keys automatically, giving operators faster, more accurate color control while reducing sheet waste and maintaining consistent print quality.*
*Optional equipment.

Five Quality Controls. One Automated System.
PQS-D (I+C+R) detects print defects, tracks density and adjusts the ink keys, and corrects register without requiring the pressman to pull a sheet. New Die-Cutting Inspection Frame Setting² focuses inspection on critical areas, while Master Check²,*³ compares captured images with RIP TIFF or PDF data to catch plate mounting errors and missing or garbled characters early.
*¹ Optional configuration combining the PQS-D (C) and PQS-D (R) with the PQS-D (I).
*² Optional software that expands the PQS-D quality inspection function.
*³ Defect inspection with this function has performance limitations. Please contact your sales representative for details.
One Touch. One Streamlined Makeready Process.
Automated Smart Assist Printing enables nonstop production across multiple jobs with the touch of a button. It automates ink presetting, blanket cleaning, plate changes, test printing, register and density adjustment, and production printing. With PQS-D, quality inspection and corrections happen automatically without pulling sample sheets. The result is highly efficient job changeover for short-run printing, with visual verification available when required.

Single Pressman Operation with ASAP & Speed Productivity Boost
Single pressman operation has long helped RMGT 8-UP users improve profitability and flexibility. With the RMGT 970, advanced automation reduces per-shift staffing costs and makes the 9 Series approach to manufacturing even more viable for today’s pressroom.

Smart Make-Ready function
The RMGT 970 streamlines job changeover with Smart Make-Ready, automatically handling blanket cleaning, plate changes, preset inking, and test printing. Simultaneous blanket cleaning and ink presetting, a benderless plate clamp, and predictive density control further reduce setup time, helping shops move quickly and efficiently from one short-run job to the next.

Automatic Plate Changing System
Compared with a B1-size press, On the 970PF, the Simul Changer changes plates across every printing unit simultaneously in about one minute, regardless of press configuration. This reduces downtime and keeps short-run perfecting jobs moving through frequent changeovers. Four plate-changing systems are available, each using a benderless plate clamp to eliminate plate bending.*
*SPC is standard. Smart-FPC and FPC are optional. Simul Changer is optional for the 970PF convertible perfector and is not available on straight presses.

Predictive Density control system
Predictive density control* delivers faster color with less waste by automatically measuring printed color bars and adjusting ink density to reach target values quickly. This reduces waste during job changeover while maintaining stable, consistent print quality.
Base ink volume control and feeder air presetting help the RMGT 970 transition quickly between jobs, images, and paper stocks. Automatic ink and airflow adjustments shorten makeready, while saved presets improve accuracy and efficiency on repeat jobs.**
*Using a PDS-E SpectroDrive/SpectroJet printing density control system and a PQS-D printing quality control system.
**Feeder air presetting is optional.
Faster Turnaround & Higher Throughput
Efficient makereadies, LED Curing capability, and advanced automation help move jobs from press to finishing faster while producing more sellable work per shift.
High-Value Printing with Efficient LED-UV Curing
A coating unit combined with flexible LED-UV or UV curing configurations expands production into high-value applications, including metallized paper, film substrates, white ink, UV varnishes, and chemical embossing.
The LED-UV curing unit uses about 63% of the power consumed by a conventional UV lamp system and switches on and off instantly to reduce standby energy use. It produces no ozone, generates significantly less heat, and requires no spray powder, helping protect substrates while maintaining a cleaner, more efficient pressroom.

One-Pass High Speed Perfecting
The RMGT 970 produces high-quality double-sided work in one pass at speeds up to 15,000 sheets per hour. Advanced sheet-turning technology securely controls each sheet for precise perfecting, while touchscreen operation switches the press between straight printing and perfecting in less than two minutes.

High Value-Added Printing
Varnish coatings, special colors, and the ability to print on non-absorbent materials expand production from commercial work to short-run packaging. The retractable chamber coating unit applies a wide range of aqueous and UV varnishes, then retracts to allow preparation for the next job while printing continues.

Flexible Curing for Specialty Applications
LED and UV Curing units can be positioned at the delivery or over the impression cylinder to match specific production needs. Combined with a coating unit, this flexible configuration supports high-value applications including white ink on metallized paper, film printing, UV varnishes, and chemical embossing.
From Commercial Print to Light Packaging
Skeleton Transfer Cylinder Specification Adds Versatility to the RMGT 970. The optional skeleton transfer cylinder handles substrates up to 0.8 mm thick, expanding production capabilities from flyers, brochures, and posters to book covers, cards, and light packaging.*
Improved Heavy-Stock Feeding and Register Precision
Updates to the feeder board and infeed sections improve heavy-stock performance, while a pneumatic push-pull side lay increases pulling force and maintains precise registration on thicker substrates.*
Reliable, Scratch-Free Sheet Transfer
The skeleton transfer cylinder keeps its surface away from the image area to help prevent scratches. Three preset air-management systems provide stable, reliable sheet transfer across a wide range of substrate sizes and thicknesses.**
*Available on straight presses only.
**Included with the skeleton transfer cylinder specification.
